Trail Riding Training Tips

0430_02

Taking your horse down the trail can be some of the best fun you have with him. It’s hard to beat riding a well-trained horse in pretty country. Trail riding can be as relaxing or as challenging as you desire, and it creates a better partnership between you and your horse.

Plus, it’s just plain good for your horse – it adds variety to his training and offers great mental and physical stimulation for him. However, if you’re not properly prepared for the experience or if your horse is not trained to ride on the trail, trail riding can be very frustrating, frightening and dangerous. Just like any discipline you do with a horse, your horse must be trained properly to excel on the trail.

If you’d like tips to make the most of your trail-riding experience and to train your horse to be a safe, willing and dependable trail partner, be sure to check out our DUHorseman YouTube channel playlist “How to Train a Trail Horse.” The playlist is full of how-to videos and excerpts from the Fundamentals In Action on the Trail Series.
