Meet the 2020 Clinician Academy Students: Katie Votaw

Texas horsewoman Katie Votaw will be attending this year’s Clinician Academy. Katie has been riding since childhood, focusing on a variety of disciplines including hunter/jumper and breakaway roping. She shares why she’s passionate about the Method and decided to enroll in the Academy.

Why do you believe in the Method?
I believe in the Method because it works, and like Clinton says, it’s idiot proof. When I got my mare in 2015, she was a 3 year old who was supposed to be broke. She wasn’t, and I was at a crossroads where I didn’t know what to do and couldn’t afford to pay someone else to train her. I researched the Downunder Horsemanship Method and came across the Colt Starting kit. I bought the kit along with the correct tools and haven’t looked back since. That same mare who is pictured here is now the best horse I have ever owned, and it’s all thanks to the Method.

What made you decide to attend the Academy?
I joined the Academy because I want to help other people who might also be at a crossroads in their horsemanship the way I was with my very green-broke filly. I also want to train horses in the Method to help them go to good homes so that their new owners aren’t disappointed in their training the way I was when I got my filly. I love helping people and I love horses and the process of training a horse. I also have a passion for learning. I am always trying to improve my feel and timing to get better at being a horseman. What better way to fulfill this passion than to attend the Academy?

We’re looking forward to welcoming Katie to the ranch and helping her on her journey toward becoming a Method Ambassador! Learn more about the Clinician Academy on our website.
