Patricia, I hear what you’re saying about the heat in July. I don’t do heat or humidity at all. We had alot of wind so we stayed in the indoor arena for the groundwork and went outside for the riding. I think it will work great for you to take long midday break. That way you may be a little refreshed for the second part of the day!
I use those neck bandana things that you soak in water and they swell up to help with the heat. They have something that resembles kitty litter in them and they really help keep me cool. I also bought a quilted vest that you soak in water and wear. It is made by Cool Medics and is really nice (but pricey). They make other products too like liners for your cap, etc. You might check that out unless you already have something similar.
I’m so glad that we have both Dale and Jennie in the midwest. Gives us such opportunities for clinics now. I do have a suggestion for you too. I know you’ve gone to clinics before – I remember seeing you at the one in Lyons or Topeka. I wished I would have used the same horse that I used for a clinic in November 2008 that I went to with Shana. I thought I’d use a new horse I just bought a few months ago that didn’t know as much. But I think I would have been able to perfect myself alot more if I’d used a horse that knew more. Clinton told me it is a good idea to use the same horse for three clinics. Then you can pretty muc be able to move on to the next level. So my plan is to take a 10 day clinic in Stephenville in 2011 and take my older horse that has been learning the method as long as I have.
Anyway, just a thought. I hope you have a great time and good weather. Make sure you have a pocket full of lip gloss!
