Went to the CO Springs Clinic this past weekend with my husband. We were both participants. What an experience. I’d never been to anything like this before. I have to admit, I was thinking it was going to be so nice just to spend 3 full days with my horse – I wasn’t thinking about what we would be DOING together.
It was great to get help on issues I had – like yielding the forequarters; yielding hindquarters, etc. and why I hadn’t gotten the response that I got over the weekend. The intensity level was really high – for me. I also hadn’t realized that I was a naggy mother and treated my horse like “precious”, until Michelle and Megan were pointing out that you ask then whack – I needed to be much more black and white. My horse is on the lazy side, so this was tough for both he and I. It took a lot of work and consistency. I plan to post all I learned and the mistakes I was making on my blog over this next week as a reminder to myself and just to share.
Regrets: I didn’t make my horse move enough in cantering the 3rd day. I could have kept him going, but I was exhausted and he is a constant on the whipping. Clinton, Michelle, and Megan put a lot of time into my horse and I should have stepped up the last day. Still, I learned so much and am so grateful for the opportunity. Met some fantastic people and their horses.
