Clinton worked with Tico, a 9-year-old Missouri Fox Trotter in the first of three demos. Tico’s owner Keyadani has owned the mare for four years and explained that for the first three years, Tico was a perfect horse. After a car accident that made it physically impossible for Keyadani to ride or work with Tico, the mare developed several bad habits including being buddy sour, pushy and mouthy.
– The first thing Clinton did when he took a hold of the lead rope was to establish his personal hula hoop space.
– Clinton went to work getting control of Tico’s feet practicing Yield the Hindquarters Stage One.
– Tico picked up on the Yield the Hindquarters exercise quickly.
– Clinton always made sure to rub Tico with the stick after asking her to face him with two eyes.
and 7- Working on Lunging for Respect Stage One.
– Clinton had Keyadani work on the desensitizing exercises with Tico. When she was first approached with the lead rope, Tico used the reactive side of her brain and backed for a long time before she finally stood still and showed a sign of relaxing.
– After the fifth repetition of spanking the ground with the stick, Keyadani was feeling the effects. To her and the crowd’s amusement, Clinton asked, “Is your arm getting tired? Good, keep going!”
– Clinton stepped in and helped Keyadani with her stick swinging form.
