I attented a clinic in October and I have a hint. If the applications says get the mecate rein set, get it; if it says work through the fundamentals, do it; if it says you must be able to lope on a loose rein in a group situation, learn to. It is very frustrating for people to have invested time and money and followed the rules, then get to the clinic and people there have unruly horses and do not have a clue about the exercises. The clinicians then spend valuable time “training” someone’s horse. This is not a horse training clinic. It is a horsemanship clinic. I did notice that these same people that had the unruly horses were the one’s that did not put “Precious” on the pole at lunch, but instead turned “Precious” out in the run, threw his hay on the ground (another rule broken) so he could get rest before he had to be given over to the clinicians again in the afternoon. I for one will not attend another clinic. Clinton and his staff were excellent. The facilities were top notch. Ample time is provided before and after the clinics for “extra” help if you needed it. But there is a reason for rules and they should be followed.
