I’ve been to several tours now and plan to continue going every year he comes even remotely close to me. Every horse he works with is different which means I personally learn something new every time, too. I would say my first tour (2007) I suffered from sensory overload – I couldn’t take it all in – in one weekend. Second tour, a whole lot of lightbulbs went off precisely because I knew the Fundamentals inside and out – I could see CA’s execution on a variety of horses.
Do I have moments now where I’ve been there, done that? Sure. But now…now the tours are just a family reunion! I personally think CA and the entire DUH staff are just good, good folk. He’s not for everyone (clearly he’s not for you, horsetrainer96) but I’d much rather hang out with people who call a spade a spade, can correct (human) behaviour that needs to be corrected with a joke (I personally take that much better than harsh criticism) and lay down some expectations/limits with their fans. I’ll say it again…Clinton is one of the most generous people I’ve ever met, but that doesn’t mean we should take advantage of that…and it doesn’t mean he’ll let us, either!
Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of Solitaire. It is a grand passion.--Ralph Waldo Emerson
