Just thought I’d share my daughter Emily’s experience at the Colt Starting clinic this year. While it highlights her and her horse, I believe the other participants will easily spot themselves throughout the video.
I cannot think of a better way to start a colt than by following this method. Clinton stressed safety–first for the human, and then for the horse–and correct technique. Flex, flex, flex. And he stressed how easy it is to record a bad habit on a clean slate. By the end of the 10 days, these horses had done it all! They had been thoroughly flexed, desensitized, ridden at all 3 gaits, taken through water, in and around an obstacle course, and some even ridden bareback.
I can honestly say that the horse we trailered home was a respectful and calm horse, ready to take on her new life!
Enjoy the video, and picture yourself there next year!
