Hello, my name is Ed. My wife has attended a couple of clinics and by default I have been exposed to the CA method via dvd’s, sticks with strings, halters, etc. So after being horseless for many years, I purchase a yearling filly that is now two and have been, with the help of my wife, trying to ascend the ladder of the CA method. I am thankful she hasn’t videoed me at this point as I am sure I don’t look like I think I look. Anyhow, my young filly and I are scheduled to attend this clinic with Shana.
My questions are these, if anyone might share their knowledge. I haven’t put any shoes on this filly but have just been having her trimmed regularly. Will probably have her shod before the clinic, but was kinda questioning that as I am not sure it’s necessary. I am unsure how many rocks, etc, they have around Stephenville.
Also, as she will only be technically 2.25, my wife keep talking about a lot of continued cantering. I am a little skeptical about that much “pounding” on a young horse’s legs.
Not huge questions, but don’t want hurt her legs.
Really looking forward to the clinic.
Thanks,
Ed
Hi Ed, I think shoeless is fine at the clinic if that is what your Filly is used too and has not experienced any issues. The Ranch looks to be extremely manicured and like an awesome place to ride. As far as the concern for the cantering…. Just give Ethan (at DUH) a call and I am sure he will be happy to give his input. I think your concerns are justified since Clinton is always talking about cantering them til they have had enough, then canter them some more.
I hope it all works out!
