Give Your Colt the Start He Deserves

1001_01

How your horse is started under saddle provides the foundation for the rest of his career. Participants in our Colt Starting Clinic are walked through the steps to safely execute the first saddling and the first ride all the way through confidently riding outside the arena.

The clinic begins with participants working with their colts in the roundpen and then moving on to Fundamentals groundwork. Exercises on the ground focus both on desensitizing and sensitizing to pressure so that the horses are not only quiet, using the thinking side of their brains and prepared for a rider but are also responsive and attentive to cues. Clinton’s approach to colt starting, which he learned from his late Australian mentor Gordon McKinlay, is focused on preparation and safety for both horse and rider. The clinic provides a whole new appreciation for what a proper foundation allows you to accomplish with a horse.

The 2020 Colt Starting Clinic will be taught by Professional Clinician Jeff Davis and will take place April 21 – May 1 at the Downunder Horsemanship Ranch in Stephenville, Texas. Cost to participate is $2,000 for No Worries Club members and $4,000 for non-members.

The clinic is open to 30 horsemen and only five participation spots are still available. Horsemen interested in enrolling in the clinic must fill out a clinic application and submit a short video that shows them walking, trotting and cantering on a broke horse with an independent, secure seat. The clinic application can be found on the Downunder Horsemanship website.
